This is one of the questions we need to confront if Africa is serious about economic transformation.
Africa has capital in banks, pension funds, institutional investors, development institutions, private markets and the global investment community.
Yet African businesses still struggle to access working capital.
Exporters struggle with trade finance.
Infrastructure projects struggle to reach financial close.
Investors struggle to navigate fragmented markets.
And capital often struggles to move efficiently across borders.
So perhaps the problem is not simply “Where will Africa find more capital?”
Perhaps we should also ask:
“What financial infrastructure is preventing the capital we already have from becoming productive investment?”
Africa needs to move beyond fragmented financial systems.
We need stronger connections between:
- SAVINGS to CAPITAL,
- CREDIT to BUSINESS,
- TRADE to INVESTMENT,
- JOBS to WEALTH
That means better payment and settlement infrastructure, deeper local-currency markets, stronger FX liquidity, interoperable regulation, digital identity, trusted financial data, trade-finance platforms, risk-sharing mechanisms and investment-ready projects.
The opportunity is not simply to bring more money into Africa.
It is to build the infrastructure that allows African and international capital to move efficiently into African opportunity.
This is the problem I have been working to solve as Founder of Credit Africa, connecting capital, banking, payments, trade, investment and real economic activity into a more seamless financial ecosystem.
Africa does not only need more capital.
Africa needs better capital connectivity.
👇 PUBLIC DEBATE:
What is the biggest barrier preventing African capital from becoming productive African investment?
Regulation? FX liquidity? Risk? Infrastructure? Governance? Project preparation? Financial connectivity? Or something else?
I would like to hear from policymakers, bankers, investors, DFIs, fintech founders and African entrepreneurs.
